Twenty two members of the LU Fly Fishing Club got together with Hokendauqua Chapter members for a day of fishing on a crisp Sunday in October. They were invited to fish at Chapter member Bob Saks’ pond. The pond has been used several times for the Chapter’s Project Healing Waters Program and is adequately stocked with trout. The group was divided into a morning session of nine and an afternoon session of thirteen. After introductions, students were given a brief description of TU and the Hokendauqua Chapter. They were instructed on the basics of fly fishing. A fly casting seminar was given and also instructions on the roll cast. A majority of the students had never fly fished before. All students had hooked, played and landed at least one sizeable trout. Most students caught several trout.
Light lunch of pizza and soft drinks was available to both groups between sessions. After lunch the second group went through the same process as the first. The weather warmed some and the trout were more active. More activities with the club will be forthcoming. The club would also like to get involved with the Chapter’s Conservation activities. They were also invited to attend the Chapter’s Fly Tying Class starting in January.
