The Hokendauqua Chapter is partnering with Whitehall Township, Hokendauqua Park and Playground Association and the PA Fish & Boat Comm. on a  streambank restoration project to take place on the Coplay Creek in the Hokendauqua Playground off of Lehigh Street in Whitehall, PA. All the paperwork has been summitted to the proper authorities for signatures and for the most part has been completed. Funding is being applied for and contacts are being made for donations of materials. Dale Ott, the Treasurer of the chapter, is spearheading the project. More detailed information will be placed in a future Blog. At the present time Monday, August 24, 2015 will be the start date for the project.

The Atlas Dam on the Hokendauqua Creek has been breached. Silt has been removed. The area above the dam should now create a cold water habitat conducive to trout. The Brown Trout should be able to go further upstream for breeding. More pictures under the Photos heading.

Approximately 26 members of the Hokendauqua Chapter, Forks of the Delaware Chapter, Monocacy Chapter, Wildlands Conservancy, AECOM, Bertsch Hokendaqua Catasauqua Watershed Assoc. and 21 members of the PA Master Watershed Stewards Program combined efforts to plant trees, shrubs and live stakes in an area where the Atlas Dam was breached through a Reconnection Project. Light lunch was served to the volunteers by the Chapter after the work was completed.

The restoration project of the Coplay Creek streambank will begin on Monday,  August 24, 2015 ( see comment above). The project will be done at several locations in the Hokendauqua Park and Playground area. Members of the chapter and the PFBC will be shoring up the bank along the stream. The township will supply the heavy equipment necessary to move the logs and rocks into place. All volunteers are welcome to assist regardless of affiliation. The project could take several days to complete. Lunch will be provided.
